| Old tickets from 1970s and 80s 19:59 - Apr 12 with 756 views | bartek | Hi, At the beginning I want to thank you for accepting my request to join this forum. I am actually a Man United fan and a mad ticket collector - I hope you will continue reading after this disclaimer. I'm looking from tickets from Ipswich games v Man United played at Portman Road during 1970s and 80s. If you can believe it among all league teams from that period finding tickets from Portman Road proved to be most difficult. I'm still missing several. A few Ipswich fans suggested that I should try asking here so here I am. I'd be happy to make good offers for the tickets I'm missing. Kind regards, Bart | | | | |

I'm sure there were some, but we just generally paid cash and went through the turnstile. I'll have a look though, if I can remember where I put all that old stuff .....

Thank you. It was pay at the gate for most but there were some paper tickets printed as well.

Tickets were printed for seats, which at that time consisted of the upper tiers of the West Stand (which was much smaller until they added the 3rd tier) and Cobbold. Most of the ground was standing, which was pay on the gate and not requiring tickets. The seats were mostly occupied by pensioners, most of whom will have sadly passed on, so even tickets that were kept would need to have been handed down and retained. Good luck with it.

Thank you very much for the insight. Hopefully some were handed down and will resurface. 😊

We had season tickets on the Portman terrace. Those that were not STs always had tickets. Also cup games were all ticket there.

That's a good point and apologies to the OP. I forgot that the lower tier of the Portman Stand (now Cobbold) was made all-seater much earlier (in the 70s I think). As a child, I used to stand on a box on the lower tier of the West stand, but very occasionally senior F felt rich enough to buy seats in the opposite stand. It was strange (and exciting) seeing the home section of the North stand much closer.
