Had he stayed, given the chance, we would have continued to tread water in the Championship, doing well enough to stay up but a lack of funding meaning not good enough to challenge the top six. But then tension from the crowd would have probably created an air of unmanageable toxicity - if it hadn't already. I was there at the Barnsley game, and the atmosphere was horrible. Probably worse than anything under Lambert, which is shocking all things considered. I guess in hindsight I regret the fans, including myself, couldn't bury the hatchet and support Mick/the players after he announced his departure at the end of the season. He deserved a proper thank you for his work, rather than leaving the way he did. |  |
