Unlocking a phone from a network 10:10 - May 11 with 886 viewsgiant_stow

A google tells me doing it the proper way may take up to 10 days*, so just wondering if anyone's tried unlocking a phone from one of those little high street shops? Obviously they're all be different but is it generally a legit option likely to work or bs?

*dropped my phone in the river Thurne - smart hey?

Would setting fire to the phone and then making an insurance claim speed things up ?

Are you sure it’s locked to the network? Providers haven’t been allowed to sell locked to network phones since the end of 2021.

When you say 'offered to me' it looks a little like you're receiving stolen good here Ulls!

You know it's locked as when you put your SIM in it you get asked for an unlock code?

Usually they are only available by contacting the network operator the phone originally came from giving your IMEI or contact the phone manufacturer. If it's old it probably was locked pre-dating the OFCOM 2021 rule change. If the phone was 'purchased' with a contract that has now expired you should not be charged to unlock.

Good luck.

Thanks loads - tbh, I haven't gone and picked it up yet, so don't know about the Sim yet, but it sounds like its worth the trip over to go get it, so ta everyone - really appreciate it.

Also, being your Mothers old phone it may be on a network that piggybacks onto a big provider, as they tend to offer great value for low data and minutes usage that appeals to seniors who may not be big users.
