Yeah, the disconnect between what some people think is happening and why is actually happening is pretty stark. You only have to look at how returns are accelerating to see it’s a bit more than a start, for example. You often hear people saying all immigration is increasing too, which is the opposite to reality. The media are partly to blame and should be held to account more, but I doubt there’s anything you can do about the influencers and bad actors online who spread disinformation and are responsible for a lot of it. Anyway, it sounds like they may have some issues with this approach. I’ve no objection in principle as long as genuine refugees are protected, but it sounds like can’t be guaranteed under these new plans.

Really well articulated and well said- what I personally would like to see told in public more is how this has happened by design, how all legal routes were closed and the way in which it was used in an attempt to manipulate the public and assist in this anti-immigration/anti-asylum seeker rhetoric that is so pertinent now. I've said it before and I'll say it again- when I worked for YMCA looking after vulnerable children and young people, it was NEVER the kids seeking asylum who gave you problems- to a person, they were the most respectful and polite young people I have ever had the fortune of supporting.
