Bee Orchids. 11:19 - Jun 9 with 609 viewsStochesStotasBlewe

Fifteen years ago or so, i sowed a wildflower meadow for a regular customer of mine. Nothing fancy, nothing large, just some rough land they purchased behind their existing garden. Some fruit trees were duly planted and I keep half the meadow cut once a month and the other is left to its own thing. Looks great to be fair and every year something new pops its head above ground.
Absolutely buzzing (excuse the pun) as for the first time since its inception, some bee orchids have come up 😁.
Only a handful, but one of the plant world’s stunningly beautiful flowers.
Happy days and one of the reasons I absolutely love my chosen profession.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

With you there...my main job has seen them taking hold over the last 15 years or so and I must have about 50 marked now. The rain just about came in time and they looking great.
Up the road from us we used to garden for a very old lady who was born in her bungalow. The meadow at the back is heaving with early purple orchids and cowslips and then the bee orchids. Spectacular.

Sounds wonderful.
This is only the second garden I work in that has had orchids. The other one is on an old chalk pit so I can understand the proliferation of them there.
So pleased to see them and very happy customer šŸ‘

Nature's clever innit. Like how does a flower know to make itself look like a sexy bee to attract all the horny male bees to it? Blows my mind.

That’s great and if I had my time again,I wish I had got more into gardening than building as a job.

I’m surrounded by natures magic every working day. Lucky me I guess.
Sometimes, it’s lovely to just take a break for a few minutes, suck in the scent and enjoy the abundance of what the natural world can offer.
Can think of many worse ways to scratch a living.

You're not the first and won't be the last that wished they were a bit more Banksy.
