Tories did it with Brown (and he took quite a rep hit for 'bottling' it). Then Lab did it for the various PM changes that followed. Badenoch isn't calling for an election this time because it's in her interest to wait it out and recover some ground. Farage wants it because he knows Reform aren't likely to poll better than they are now. Personally I think Burnham would be nuts to call a snap election even if polls suggest he would win. He'd be very unlikely to end up with more MPs than he has now. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, he has the 2017 example of Theresa May to learn from. If he wants to get stuff done, he needs a big majority. He may of course use the threat of an election with his own MPs if they don't get in line with his agenda. Risky hand to play mind., they may call his bluff. Constitutionally we don't need one, it's better if this isn't overridden by media and opposition howling. As I often point out I'm no Labour voter but with objective specs on, Burnham should and likely will get time to do his thing, there will be no early election, UNLESS something shifts the polls massively in his direction. Like pictures getting released of Farage, Badenoch and Polanski frolicking together on Epstein Island, for example. [Post edited 23 Jun 9:26]

It was my mis-spelling of Badenoch, wasn't it? I feel the same when I see mistakes in other posts. Have edited now. | |
