Kevin was a decent striker in the 80s but must have lost a yard of pace by now?

Would be one of our more lazy bits of recruitment.

Never fit. Doesn’t look at the level anymore, Pope actually looks similar, looked like injuries had caught up with him …., remember when we signed oakhers in the championship three levels above that level, Bowyer. Bullard, Chopra.

Injuries catch up with players at this level very quickly.

Even as a back up, it ties up essential resources. These players don’t work for free.

Popr at least would be number one .., Wilson wouldn’t (I’d hope) and out back up should be at this level, and have re sale value and room to develop.

Sunderland signed TWO world class strikers. Both did brilliant. Both young. Both ripping up the World Cup and increasing their VALUE.

Quality and price. Value over time is how you build a club at this level, Brighton are signing a captain, leader and proven class defender from Leeds for £15 million…, having sold a player with a year left in his contract, who cost £2 million for £50 million.

THAT is how you do football at this level.

Ashton looks lost …, Phil confirming some of the links like OGS as manager, Wilson etc is just depressing.

We need a massive window, and I hope GON can add value and France is where we look to, there are so many opportunities…, but Ashton…, he’s our ceiling.

On recruitment alone, he’s maybe three or four levels below our competition.

How can we (long term) be successful until he lets go of talent ID and recruitment and/or brings in people WAY above his own talent, something I don’t think his ego could ever allow.

Lloyd would be a fantastic signing .., do I think Ashton can do those deals, no, I don’t, not even close.

Like attracts like.., time will tell though.., this window defines his tenure for me, relationship with manager broke down, more resources than ever and it’s FIVE years to develop process, which is twice as long as it takes if you have the skill set.

He doesn’t have the required skill. That’s obvious. Just my opinion but needs to bring in 8 top players. After the money he’s spent, that alone is damning, we have very many £15 million plus signing none of which look good enough.

Signing players many years past their peak, even short term, will kill our chance to sign real talent.

I hope we aren’t looking at Xhaka as ‘the rule’ because he had a stunning year in Germany, isn’t injury prone, and was always an exceptional signing. Low risk.

The risk with Wilson is off the charts - more Lee Bowyer and Jimmy Bullard.

No thanks. Must do MUCH better than this …, the most depressing bit is a 10 year old could scout Wilson! It’s lazy, poor, reductive, badly reasoned, and a depressing start to the window.
