Does that account for the 11 days "lost" in 1752 when we moved to the Gregorian calendar?
Yes because the calendar had got behind its self. Julius Caesar decreed that the year was 365 days and 6 hours long. A serious bit of science for the time. But in fact it is 365 days 5 hours and 54 minutes or so. Over 1500 or so years those 6 minutes difference added up. So the correction to Gregorian dates was a mere catch up. The new year, which used to be the 25th March, is still refected in the financial new year on 5th-6th April. For info the Russians only caught up after the revolution in 1918.
