| 'It must not, I repeat, MUST NOT turn into an all night rave' on 09:25 - Aug 20 with 153 views | soupytwist | My extended family have been going to the Waxham Sands campsite, which is just down the coast from Poplar Farm, for nigh on twenty years. For most of that time, Waxham Sands and Poplar Farm campsite kind of peacefully coexisted although you'd get the occasional person from the latter walking through to use the shop or the showers. Sometimes they'd take a few things that weren't nailed down back with them. During the summer holidays there is often some kind of rave on a Friday or Saturday night at Poplar, you could see the lights and hear the music from Waxham Sands campsite. Never bothered me, I just saw it as part of the rich tapestry of a British summer. This IG post gives a pretty accurate account of the vibe and history of the place as I understand it https://www.instagram.com/p/Dc Since the previous owners of Waxham Sands sold up to a company that owns several holiday sites around the country the place has become a lot more corporate, organised and Insta-friendly. They have installed a lot of chalets for sale and rent, and have a planning application in for more. They're gradually phasing out facilities for touring caravans, tents and motor homes. They also blocked off the access through the dunes from Poplar Farm to Waxham Sands. I would not be surprised if the new owners of Waxham Sands have gradually put pressure on Poplar Farm to be a bit less tolerant of some of the things that happen there. Police involvement and staff at Poplar Farm taking things into their own hands at the latest party could be the result of that. | | | |
