Man calls 999 after buying alcohol-free gin by mistake 12:06 - Aug 20 with 782 viewsSwansea_Blue

“unnecessary 999 call takes a call handler away from someone who could be facing a genuine emergency, possibly even life or death."

Seems like a genuine emergency to me!

My youngest female offspring is a 999 call handler for Met Police, they individually receive plain stoooopid calls daily:-

My boiler is broken

The Deliveroo rider spilt my milkshake

People reporting armed men entering their bedroom (whilst off their face on drugs recovering in hospital)

The flip side, one of her colleagues was on a suicide call when the train hit... they have to stay on an open call until police find the phone

I imagine it can get a bit stressful at times, so hats off to anyone doing that job. The last thing they need is numpties complaining about Deliveroo!

I'm just waiting to hear that a "burglar " phoned 999 complaining that he couldn't gain access to a property :) Some are stupid enough!
