Our opening 3 games have been against teams who last season finished 7th, 3rd and 5th. We have 3 points from 9 available in what is a tough start on paper. That is a good points return for a newly promoted team.
Our performances over those opening 3 games have shown signs of good and encouraging moments/spells, but we have also seen the other side of it too. We have looked competitive and honest, and with Enciso in the team, we have shown flashes of quality that can cause a problem at this level.
We are in a relegation fight at the end of the day, despite the money we have spent, we will still be fighting with 5 or 6 other teams to stay up.
It is a squad with 14 new signings. They are learning and adapting to a new manager, system and playing style as cliche as it sounds. Relationships and partnerships are developing on the pitch. Some partnerships will click.
Our next 3 league games are Crystal Palace, Everton and Fulham. Based on what I have watched so far, I think we will get points, possibly 4.
Keep the positivity. Let's not turn on individual players. There's 35 games to play, we have had a better transfer window than last time out, a more competitive start and faced 3 teams who finished in the top 7 last season and will be playing European football this season. |  |

Hull played United. Hull played a European Champion in Villa.
Didn’t concede a goal. We were beaten in NINE MINUTES. against a non European champion last night. How can anyone justify this? |
Villa have lost their best players. Their current team is still forming and is miles off what it was at the moment. They never laid a glove on Arsenal the other day and would have scored if they played to now. They were as far off them as we were off Liverpool.
Yes, Arsenal are better than Liverpool at the moment, but I think you can safely say that there are five teams that can give each other a game at the top. The rest? Fodder, including Villa. To imply AV are at or better than Liverpool’s level is ludicrous in my view.
Hull are doing well. They are hanging in there and giving it a go. They were still a long way short of AV who missed chances against HC that Liverpool would have taken. If you doubt that, you clearly didn’t see Isak on Friday.
But I don’t care about Hull and whoever. I care that our defence looks wrong. Like the rest of the team it’s loose, with players not quite knowing where they should be. That how I saw it.
However, we have far better players than two years ago and options. We also carry threats to opposition. Two seasons ago we dug points out without winning, but we sank with a whimper and results before Christmas were already a forgone conclusion. Ok we beat Chelsea, but in most other games we collapsed after 20 mins.
The evidence in a paltry three games is for me that we might, just might, do the opposite. In other words grow stronger. We certainly have the players. Time will tell if the manager and the players have the skill to form a team. |  | | |
