Yes this guy must have one helluva pay packet but with Britain in the quagmire that we are in we cannot keep losing people of this caliber. Paying these amounts of taxes.
It would take one heck of a lot of people earning £30-£40,000 a year to pay that amount of tax.
No I don't believe these people should leave Britain. When you have wealth running into billions what's a few million here and there.
But I am afraid that is what these people do. You and I have no say in what we pay in taxes as they are PAYE wages or pensions. We cannot just up sticks and move our family.
You either have a government policy that entices these people to stay or you have one which we currently have where this government wants to even everything up whether you work or not. But continue as we are and we will be in bigger trouble than we already are.

If income tax is his concern, the top rate has been at 45% since about 2011.

But maybe you are suggesting reducing the top rate of income tax for those who earn over a certain amount.

Whilst it doesn’t stack up morally, if the bean counters proved that the amount of money being raised for public services increased if you lowered top rate tax, there is actually a practical argument for doing it. Principles v pragmatism?

Just like merging Income Tax with NI, which would actually increase tax take considerably by drawing some pensioners back into paying NI (including me - and I’ve have no objection), it’ll never happen because it’d be political suicide.
