And slipping further out of town, how about live music at the Albion Mills?

Y'know, I don't think I ever went in 'The Albion Mills'...'or 'The Spring Tavern'...or 'The Blooming Fuschia', but I spent a few evenings in 'The Greyhound' and another Adnams pub further out 'The Golden Key'.

Poll: To make him more acceptable what should Gary O'Neill change his middle name to ?

Didn’t know the Golden Key was Adnams, only ever went in it whilst on the Woodbridge / Spring Road pub crawl.

Did you ever venture along Cauldwell Hall Road ? Was it 'The Lion' or 'The Lion's Head' ? And then coming out the other end 'The Railway', saw a few bands there.

For the first time in decades, I walked past the Case Is Altered on Woodbridge Road on the night of the Liverpool game.

I think it was called that in those days but that was where I saw a friend of a friend perform. His act consisted of fairly experimental sound music coupled with his injecting a needle into his arm and squirting out his blood against a background screen.

Being squeamish, I fainted.

Start at the Lattice, the Brickies, Old Times, Trafalgar perhaps for Spring Rd?

Or Lattice, (Brickies?), John Bull, Key, Case, Albion Mills etc for more of a Woodbridge Rd exclusive?

Golden Key, Old Times, and like you I know the Lion/.Lion's Head but couldn't tell you the name (maybe both over the years - now the Harp) then as you say the Railway where I first met the current Mrs YBR (Lacey Street Blues Band were playing).

Thanks for reminding me about the Lacey Street Blues Band. Top stuff.

There were also the "alternative" stand ups and poets there in the very early 80s. Think we saw Alexei Sayle, John Cooper Clarke and others. Then local bands, Nagamatzu, Panorama in Black, Still Life in Action, Boredom Brothers, The Danserye, The Reasonable Strollers etc.

The cellar was quite "atmospheric" :-)

I practically grew up in those pubs in the 80's. It's weird to think I probably know half the people on this site.
