Another day of Capitalism eating itself. 09:05 - Sep 27 with 1091 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

https://www.theguardian.com/wo

'The catalyst was the eviction of Abascal, now known across the country by her first name, Maricarmen. The 87-year-old woman with a disability said she had been forced to leave her home after she was unable to afford the 230% rent hike demanded by the investment fund that bought her apartment.'

....and right wing populist grifters doing what they do....

'While his government had in 2023 managed to pass legislation that strengthened tenant protection and widened access to rent control, regions led by the People’s party had wielded their powers over housing to avoid implementing parts of the legislation.

Among those who had ignored parts of the legislation was the rightwing leader of the Madrid region, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who in recent weeks has faced questions over her administration’s decision to allegedly spend €6.3m (£5.4m) of public funds on a residential penthouse to use as a temporary office.

The striking contrast between the allegations against Ayuso and the eviction of Maricarmen has repeatedly cropped up this week, from the decision to hold Wednesday’s protest in Madrid on a boulevard next to the penthouse, to the chants urging “Ayuso’s penthouse for Maricarmen”.'

They are a socialist party - it’s corruption pure and simple for self enrichment.

There's corruption inherent in human activities of all flavours, where the light doesn't reach.

But when you add a divisive layer of corporate wealth extraction and greed in between the supplier and the customer, you create a bigger and less transparent stinking environment for that corruption to fester in.

Fundamental.

Less good news, and very Orwellian. Also something that any halt on the development of super AI will not stop.

https://www.theguardian.com/te

"Teachers at Euan Blair firm report ‘horrendous stress’ after AI used to rate their work

Exclusive: Instructors at tech training company Multiverse hit out at ‘remorseless’ and ‘unnerving’ monitoring system"

Still, you can see why Blair senior and his son are so keen on AI.

Interestingly, there was a report the other day which showed that London was the fourth best city for AI development in the world. It talked about 6,000 jobs being created but given the billions involved, that isn't a great deal, and no doubt there are very few qualified for such jobs. And the irony is that AI itself if likely to have an effect on the number of such jobs.

Everything I've seen so far around the negative affects of AI, beyond the obvious largest one of consuming ridiculous amounts of resources, is that it's just implemented/used very badly. People think you need to use if for everything now just because it exists. You don't.

And I'd have thought this is an obvious case of when you don't want to use it. There's no way I'd have left assessing my staff to a machine. Surely as a boss, you need to get to know and understand the people working with you to build relationships and trust, learn what motivates them and what stresses them. You can't have a happy and productive workplace if there are no relationships and people are stressed out all the time.

Leave it for helping to cruch large data sets, detect patters and associations in qualitative data and for making comedy pictures for uploading onto TWTD.

And interesting to note that Multiverse's Ofsted report is very poor.

Despite that, the company is worth £1.6 billion, on turnover of £118m and losses of £28m last year.

What a crazy world we live in.

AI valuations have zero relation to reality at this point.

I listened to someone the other day that said that if Anthropic (people who own Claude) were to offer a return on investment for their valuation ($2 trillion, 31 times revenue...) they would need to:

- Have zero staff
- Pay zero electricity
- Pay zero taxes
- Payout every single dollar they earned
- Discount future earnings at the US treasury rate

And in 100 years it still would not have paid off.

And it was the state that implemented the rules allowing themselves to profit. Government is the least transparent and regulated entity, even corporations have to report their activities and abide by regulations. The government literally does what it wants, buries what it wants (legally) and courts donations for their own enrichment.

Even the communists weaponised the supply of food for power and wealth, there’s nothing more fundamental than filling your stomach.

Yes, there is a hell of a lot of hype and hope behind these valuations but when such firms are taken over it is often at the inflated figure.

And it will be interesting to see if Open AI pulling their update, aa well all the recent issues and warnings, will cause a bit of a market readjustment.

It really ought to but I am not holding my breath.

Who are you referring to here? The PSOE who have been trying to push through rental reform legislation for the last 2 years and who have been blocked by national and regional right wing and far right parties...or some other socialists?
