Reflecting on McKenna’s time with Ipswich 17:30 - Oct 7 with 833 viewsbrazil1981

Read an article today on Sean Dyche, bemoaning that he spent an average £9m a season and kept Burnley in the Prem for a few seasons, whilst Vincent Kompany spend £124 and got them relegated in 1 season…but Kompany gets the Bayern Munich job! Someone in the comments made the interesting point that Kompany used that season to show potential future employers (eg Bayern) that he’s locked in on expansive, attractive, passing football no matter what, i.e. that he was more interested in his future career than being pragmatic and adapting his style of football to give Burnley a chance of staying up!
Now don’t get me wrong, I’ll always love KM for what he did for us but perhaps the same accusation could be levelled at him regarding his Prem season with us? Probably explains why he thought this summer was the time to move on as well?

Dyche still seems a bit of a Mike Bassett - "4-4-2 is coming back".
I'll be interested in what McKenna does next as he's now definitely seen as a "promising young coach" with 3 promotions in 4 seasons.

Am I the only one who thinks this might have been the pinnacle of his managerial career? I just can’t see he will be given time at a bigger club to build a team the way he was here. Bigger clubs just don’t have patience, they want instant results. People bang on about him ending up at Spurs if it all goes wrong again but those supporters would only give him half a dozen games before they made their minds up. He needs a club that will give him time to build and create his methods, for that he would need another lower league team. Maybe a Derby County, a Birmingham City,Middlesbrough someone who are big enough to be successful but also somewhere he can build something again.

If you read his story in Guardian, he is possibly looking for a project just like the Town , he is keen to not just plonk himself down in some hot seat and get sacked because of impatience, hence his willingness to spend time abroad …….his future is bright with the right club once again .

Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up abroad at a similar size club as Town

I think going abroad somewhere where he might get European football and win something in that nations top tier fairly quickly is probably the next step for him. That then gives him the springboard to get a 'bigger Prem club'.

I've always thought Sheffield Wednesday might be a good fit for him, bags of potential and love if all goes well
