| Ouattara vs Davis 08:15 - Oct 24 with 765 views | DarkBrandon | Did anyone else notice that it seemed we were playing a very asymmetrical formation in the first half? Outtara got forward a *lot. Made runs inside and out, and pressed high. Davis was much more defensive and often slotted alongside O’Shea when Outtara went. This led to Philogene being given the ball, and not having Davis up there creating space. Some (not all) of Philogene’s difficulties I felt stemmed from being given the ball with the full back 2 yards away and being expected to beat him. Also the gap Outtara left behind him caused us problems on at least three occasions. I was a little confused with our pressing strategy. We let the three Forest centre halves have the ball for the first ten minutes or so, until Ensisco started pressing more of less by himself. We gave them less space as the half went on. I’d love to ask O’Neill about this. I wonder if he made these changes, if so why. Or maybe I’m just not analysing the patterns of play correctly. | | | | |

It was noticeable when they played the ball in front of us they achieved very little but we're much more dangerous getting the ball to the wings in quick transition. I think that also stifled us a lot and for an outsider made for a stodgy match not helped by the weather. I did notice Davis not supporting Jaden so much but think that is related to the above. Ouatarra played more of his usual game for us I thought but might have benefitted more from having Maeda in front of him in this type of match.

Pep used to do that with his full backs quite often, but Man City would be dominating the ball, whereas we didn’t. I think we do struggle with those teams that play 4 central midfielders, as we are easily outnumbered. May need to tweak our systems to ensure we are competitive in the centre of the pitch. In hindsight, probably missed Lukic more than expected.
| Ouattara vs Davis on 08:48 - Oct 24 with 530 views | BloomBlue | A problem we have is when Davis doesn't do his bombing forward we never look as dangerous as a team, certainly don't create as many chances, but when he does bomb forward, we can leave gaps. I think last night O'Neil was conscious of Forest's rapid counterattack, Glasner played the same style at Palace, which meant only one FB was moving forward at anyone time. The amount of time we made one bad pass in their half to immediately be followed by them moving at pace forward to create a chance was amazing. Outtara was often forward, I counted at least 3 times in the 2nd half when he ran forward looking for a ball over the top. It never came, we lost the ball and he was the furthest player foward at the point, which left a gap in the RB position. Its difficult as we need our FBs attacking to stretch the opposition but when it breaks down we can become overrun in defence. Although that's where we miss Lukic. | | | |
