For the new competition - Nations League

They are in group B with both of the two Irish teams. The scots in the 3rd group and England in the top league.

I assume this will replace friendlies?

It's a bonkers idea from UEFA to try to inject a bit of interest into the endless rounds of international friendly games. Would only have apoint if it replaced the tedious qualifying process for the Euros. Otherwise, a bit like the way they hand out a plastic trophy & medals after most of England's Autumn friendly rugby internationals.
