Our squad 11:55 - Nov 8 with 669 viewsclive_baker

The nature of the level we’re at is such that if you want or expect to see the quality of some of the players we’ve become accustomed to, they’re generally either up and coming youngsters who will be prone to errors, and may we’ll go on to play at a higher level, or they’re in the autumn of their careers and have played at a higher level previously. I put our squad into the following 3 buckets:

1) Valuable 23+:

Ward
Chambers
Norwood
Vincent-Young
Bishop
Jackson
Edwards

2) Very Promising youngsters:

Woolfenden
McGuinness
Dozzell
Downes
McGavin
Dobra
Lankester

3) Decent enough L1 players (generous in some cases), but little more:

Judge
Wilson
Hawkins
Holy
Cornell
Sears
Nsiala
Donacien
Kenlock
Nolan
Huws

There’s a role for 2 or 3 players from pot 3 in the side at any moment, but any more than that and we start to look distinctly average at this level. The more of our side we can populate from 1 & 2 the better, and we can be dominant at this level if we get that mix right. It is important to remember yesterday’s side was far from a strong team, against an unchanged divisional rival.

Norwood coming back was good to see, his movement yesterday at 50% fit was better than we’ve had for weeks.

I think that’s a good break down actually. Don’t think I could argue with a single one. Would maybe squeeze Ndaba into promising youngster but looks a little of first team picture right now.

The problem you have there is bar Donacien (who did ok yesterday), then players have been either regular starters, regular substitutes throughout this campaign, and ultimately leads to the fact that too much of this squad simply aren’t good enough.

Would have to agree with most of that. Having said that, still think there is enough in there to get out of this league. They are all good footballers and if trained and managed right, with the right tactics, then we should be good enough. Unfortunately, we have a manager who only fits in the not good enough for any league in charge.

On that basis you need 4 players from 3 to make up a 1st team squad.

On list 2 you could easily add Gibbs and Brown.

Don't think that PL is good enough to get us up though. His tactics and style aren't helping the cause esp yesterday when he clearly had no plan to move the ball quicker and get forward. He woke up a bit in 2nd but they were still looking the better side. Not sure that we can rely on Hawkins to score enough without another striker next to him. Norwood made a difference but maybe he needs Jacko alongside as we're not creating enough in the penalty area

You can add El-Miz to list 2 as well he’ll be back for next season or January! Don’t forget Nydam as well.

When we did move it quickly yesterday we looked a far different team and one that can match and better any team in this league. However we are determined not to do that for the majority games. Can we also stick Edwards on the left for every game he plays.
