Cup competitions and weakened sides 07:47 - Nov 11 with 423 views | saffers12 | We should be playing our best side or a close to as possible for all matches. Getting through to the last 4 or a final etc in the trophy last night will give the lads practice in dealing with these situations Many teams that get promoted in the EFL have done well in cup competitions in previous seasons and they are used to those close, tense games If we did get into the play offs I have no faith that the current first team would have the battle hardened experience

Lambert is getting all the criticism for not taking cup games seriously but this attitude goes way back before he arrived at the club. Exactly the same thing was said about MM in his time here. One can only assume this comes from the top. Quite why is anybody’s guess, like much of what goes on under the Evans regime it makes no real sense, but if our illustrious owner wasn’t happy with it the attitude to cup matches would presumably change.

You seem to be forgetting that Lambert came in and criticised how previous management had treated cup matches . For me to think that the owner has told our manager to play under strength is pure fiction .

I’m not forgetting anything! Surely that proves the point even more. He didn’t on the face of it come into the club with an attitude that cup games don’t matter so where did that attitude come from if not from within the club somewhere?

I think what sums up the clubs current approach to everything ... We've got the UEFA Cup 40th shirts (which neglects to mention we won it..) which was a great PR move by the club, and on the pitch we managed to get dumped out of 3 different cup competitions after playing our second string in those games. 40 years ago we almost won a treble with less players than we have now because we took every game seriously, now we finish bottom of a group stage that featured Arsenals kids team and Crawley both of which played weakened sides against us and won comfortably. Yet we're told our kids are amazing... maybe in 2001. Not now. We have a second rate Academy living off of a legacy that has produced very little in over a decade. The only Academy product to play for England in that time was released by it. Let that sink in. We're celebrating one of our finest hours with this rubbish. The football is rubbish, the players aren't up to it, the management is over a decade past being relevant in the game. The academy is rubbish, the shirts are rubbish, the ground is tired. It's all absolutely rubbish. We should be angrier than we are about what is happening here, I don't know why Evans isn't taking more flack for this because managers have come and gone but nothing has changed. People get angrier about bad third division referees then they do our owner, who is the reason we are in this mess just because he underwrites a loss every year. It's like a caged animal being grateful that it's owner feeds it and waters it occasionally so its still alive, but doing absolutely nothing else for it but leaving it rot in the cage. Evans is the problem. It is the man at the top and his bare minimum attitude that has put us here. Lambert won't be here forever but nothing will change while Evans is here.
