Anyone watch this last night, brilliant drama but still shocking that this happened during my lifetime, no wonder there is so much resentment and anger from the Caribbean community.
On a side note although set in Notting Hill the film shown last night was in Grafton street Kentish Town, there was a cafe by the railway arch where I take my break if I’m delivering in that area.

Yep, an outstanding bit of story telling, all based on a true story. And for the record, the Met continued their racist vendetta against Frank Crichlow into the 90s before he won £50k for "false imprisonment, battery and malicious prosecution".

Excellent wasn't it.....thank goodness it is all consigned to history!! Police making stuff up, unbelievable.

Only saw the last hour, but picked up the narrative from reading about it - absolutely superb stuff. The highlight for me was Darcus Howe (who I'd only previously been aware of as a writer and broadcaster) delivering a magnificent, statesman-like speech summarising the case for the defence from a historical perspective, which must have influenced the jury I think - along with the cardboard cut-out replica of the tiny viewing window that the supposed police "eye-witness" claimed they were all looking out of at the same time! 🤣 (It measured about 10 inches by 2!)

I always thought DH was a very good programme maker, very provocative at times but often very accurate/insightful in his observations.

Absolutely he clearly exposed the Met police officers for liars in the trial despite the judge doing his best to fck them over.

For a jury in 1971, to side with 9 black activists, including Black Panther activists, disbelieving the evidence of numerous police officers seems incredible by today's standards, am sure it would have even harder back then.

Looking forward the rest of them, am sure they'll all be worth watching.

That was the thing wasn't it - and I think the judge (if the drama was a reasonably accurate reflection of events) actually rather shot himself/the prosecution in the foot by what seemed like obvious bigotry in his handling of the trial - forgetting that juries, irrespective of skin colour, do correctly regard themselves as *peers* of accused people + dislike "the ruling class" being arrogant & unfair.

Btw I should have said witnesses (plural) in my first post for anyone who didn't see the drama - 3 coppers supposedly looking through the 10" x 2" viewing slit of a prison van simultaneously! 😂

Thought it was brilliant and shameful the story has not been told before. The music, actors and all round feel is absolutely spot on. Steve McQueen has produced a corker of a series if the next 4 are anywhere near close to this.

Rumour has it Bob Marley used to drop into the Mangrove when in London.

Really looking forward to next weeks episode.
