Listened to an interview with joey Barton about how young academy player of today are not hungry enough and get everything thing on a plate. He was on about when he was at QPR no one had come to take his shirt. Other than downes, dozzel, bishop and Wolfenden no one else has and is why senior pros like ward, chamber, etc are still in the team. The youngster only seem to come through when theirs an injury or player dropped on poor form. Rather than coming in the team through out performing them.

I think it's harsh to question the hunger of a young pro.

Once they get pro terms they have probably been attached to pro clubs for 10 years, and faced a lot of challenges and competition.

Also it's probably harder to make it as a pro now than its ever been.

I suspect most young players have a far more committed lifestyle than Barton did at a similar age, and their behaviour is probably far superior.

Those in glass houses etc...

Poll: Would Lambert have acheived better results than Cook if given the same resources

Yh I miss worded it about questioning their hunger. What my point was is people moan about the senior player being in the side but the reason is the youngster are not good enough or a not performing when giving an opportunity.

Young players need to be given a run of games to prove themselves and adjust.

They can't be expected to prove themselves if they are not given a run of games.

Downes, Dozzell, Bishop and Woolfenden are 1-3 years older than fresh academy graduates, which is why they’ve broken through. This is only the first year Dozzell has been a regular remember. Woolf had to go on loan to get regular football. Flynn is a talent, but still older than the likes of McGavin (who needs game time btw - he’s a talent too but risks being left behind).

I’ve been hearing this same argument for 40 years. Barton thinks that young players have it easy. But I bet you experience managers think Barton’s had it easy. It’s human nature to think you had it tougher.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?
