A few thoughts on yesterday and future line ups 09:52 - Feb 7 with 632 viewsBluefish

It was clearly a lot better but I am not going over board it was still far from brilliant and it was still a fragile performance. It they had put one of the sitters away while dominating 1st half possession it would have been interesting. We were still playing too deep in the 1st half.

We got the goal against the run of play but we could have also had one before without an incorrect offside flag. We were clearly a danger on the break.

Parrott made a massive difference in making it stick but that was helped by less relevance on punting it at him and trying to pass through the lines instead. When we struggled early on was when we were trying to go longer. He is a roaming forward and not a central target man do it has to be passed to him quickly through the lines.

Downes was early tbe catalyst is breaking play and passing it forward quickly. He was back to his brilliant best. Another difference however was Sears, he was hit and miss but what he did well was joining the attack centrally. When Parrott drifted we had a joined up attack.

The comments from Alan Judge are spot on, we don't play with a 10 we play with an 8 and expect the forward not to be isolated despite having 2 wingers instead of wide forwards. Freddie played as a wide forward yesterday

Matheson did well but wasn't as spectacular as some made out, he is an exciting player. Excitingly raw but does the basics well too. Kemlock was hero to zero and back many times. He offers so much at times but gets the basics wrong so often.

The CBs held up well and the goal and CS gave woolfy the confidence back

The big issue in the performance is the lack of controlled possession in the opposition half, retaining the ball in and around their box like they were doing to us on in the 1st half. The counter attacking was excellent at times but it isn't a controlled performance without that for me.

Line ups from here on for me should be tweaked I would now go for a diamond to get another forward on the pitch. This will help to take the game further up

Holy
Matheson Woolfenden McGuiness Kenlock

Chambers to easily come in for McGuiness but let the youngsters stay for now. Kenlock to stay because he offers the attacking threat

Downes
Bishop dozzell
Judge

Nolan to challenge the central 2 and Harrop for the top but judge was very good yesterday

Parrott Jackson

Sears did so well and Jackson suspended still for now but I would love to see kayden with an intelligent forward like parrott. Norwood as cover for either role.

The squad we have is far too good and we should always win games even without any sort of tactics. If we can now impose some tactics we can dominate

Lambert out

A reasonable analysis. Matheson played very conservatively at first. Probably because he didn’t want to make errors on his debut, and also the main threat from Blackpool came from their left hand side. Despite one poster stating pre match that we would never keep a clean sheet with that back four, they were not overstretched, and the central two made no catastrophic errors. Mick Mills is spot on in his insistence that Dozzell should play higher up the pitch. Hopefully he and Parrot can get on the same wave length and create a lot of dangerous situations.
