Warnock likes to shout at referees and other managers but when another manager bites he throws his toys out and sulks. Classic ‘tell-it-like-it-is’ type.

That was a funny match. Warnock was probably right about their penalty call - Bolasie did win the ball sliding in, but then his trailing leg tripped the defender in the process. 80% of the time the play would carry on, but the ref decided to give the benefit of the doubt to the defending team. Warnock harangued the ref all the way off the pitch at half time - a strong ref would have sent him to the stands then.

Swans penalty was a penalty - the guy was wiped out. But the ref did point to the corner flag first, for some strange reason. Warnock was apoplectic by that time - que surrounding the ref again and chasing him off the pitch. He then went on TV after the game and accused the Swans manager of "putting a word in with his dad" (Cooper's dad is a former ref and works with Cardiff so is known to Warnock). But that isn't mentioned in the article for some reason.

Warnock basically lost the plot. There was a probable wrong decision, but the ref let Warnock get away with having a go at him for the rest of the match. A strong ref could have stopped all that.

Off-topic but I do remember Gary Neville reminiscing on MOTD and stating that Man U used to keep dossiers on referees so they knew exactly what, and what they wouldn’t be able to get away with.

If the referee was perceived to be weak then they would be all over him, if the ref was deemed to be strong then they were told not to interact with him. In some cases SAF would criticise the ref after the game in the hope that he wouldn’t referee their games.

On one hand, very well prepared but still quite wrong.
