Absolutely. If it takes another year to build a team that can play and compete in the Championship, so be it. Time surely has to be up for panic buys, wheeling in other club’s dross or 4th division/Conference standard players. To paraphrase Bobby Robson, if you sign 3rd division players, you’ll wind up in the 3rd division. The reverse is true. Better players = Championship. I was interested in Sunderland in the play offs (a mate of mine is an avid Mackem). They failed to get past Lincoln primarily because the players weren’t good enough, both in ability and fitness. Their attitude looked all wrong in the first leg and they ran out of gas second half of their home game. It doesn’t matter whether it’s ability, fitness or attitude, unless the vast majority of your players have all of those three forget it. Many ITFC players have in my view been sorely lacking in at least one of those for years. There are one or two players we are losing I’d like to have seen here in a proper professional set up, but there it is. I hope the players we are signing are good enough. I have never noticed them so have no idea. However I think the approach the club is taking is a million times better than it has been for years. It just feels more measured, more professional. It’s long overdue. | |
