Has anyone had to use PALS for a complaint before? 11:51 - Jul 1 with 475 views | wkj | Locally, Patient Advice and Liason Service (PALS) are those who one turns to in order to make complaints against medical care or lapses in medical care. I am currently going through this process as I was made aware my practitioner has communicated medical information to a family member when consent was not given to do so. Now my aims and motives are not financial, there are other reasons why I feel the handling of my case by the practitioner has been inappropriate - my end goal is to get assigned a different practitioner. I also hope that the errors that have been made by my practitioner will be highlighted and discussed with the party at fault so that changes can be made to help future patients not go through what I have, especially if they are in a vulnerable position. My question then, is have you been through a complaint procedure like this, and how are they to deal with? Are there things one should prep for, or are they generally quite good at guiding the process?

My advice would be to keep your complaint to the point preferably to bullet points - state from the onset what your preferred outcome would be. Initially give PALS a call to ascertain their complaint procedure and timescales for response. I would also say that you should keep a record of all correspondence that you have with PALS and to keep a log if you give them a call. Always be friendly as they are there to help you out.

Cheers. I did have a call with them yesterday, and they were excellent. I do generally have a calm demeanor in stressful situations, so talking with them respectfully shouldn't be an issue.

Sorry if I implied that you wouldn’t be anything other than polite - I remember picking the phone up and being shouted at on a daily basis. I will say that it’ll probably be better to try an conduct correspondence via email - just easier to keep a log of everything that is said.
