Hayden Coulson - An Insight 12:51 - Jul 5 with 1313 viewsTomTheWriter

I think all Ipswich fans could agree that once Matt Penney joined the club, focus was going to be on whether or not Myles Kenlock could force his way back into Cook's plans, or if the club was going to sign another left-back.

Guess our questions have been answered, and if it is Hayden Coulson then he would be the first-choice to start the season. Had a really big breakthrough a few years back under Woodgate, earned rave reviews from fans and pundits, calling him a 'one to watch.'

Under Warnock, it fell away because the formation changed. I like the look of the guy, and you can't buy every player for a new squad so smart loans are needed. Give me Coulson this year, and look for a permanent player next season when/if we get to the Championship.

Let me know what you guys think about Coulson?

penney was never going to main LB and this would be a cracking signing

Agree. You're looking at bringing/already having two left backs whose strongest attribute is their attacking play. Two players who fit perfectly for what Cook wants from his wing backs.

Unlike Lambert, of course, who wanted to play with his full backs higher up and signed a 36 y/o to do that role. It's nice to see targeted signings for a specific role, rather than buying whats available and then shoving a square peg into a round hole.

Two players with Championship experience, both at a young age and can get better over the season. If it's a loan, we could get him again next season on loan if he has a great year. If it's a permanent, then that is intent.

I think people will need to appreciate that we will no doubt concede goals on the flanks. It's a given with how the side will be set up.

What we will get tho is goals. So the return of 3 1s. 4 2s etc may finally return lol.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

Absolutely. Will make a change for the journalists and fans that get to go to the games for next season, I expect us to be within the top 4-5 teams for goals scored, whilst also conceding a few here and there. Unless Hladky turns himself into an absolute freak again!

However, having looked back at Wigan in their 17/18 Legaue One season, they conceded only 29 goals from 46 games, playing the same style. It was 11 goals better than the second best defence in Blackburns Rovers. Hopefully Cook can drill the defence the same as he did four years ago
