December 2006 premiership goal of the month nominees. on 10:04 - Dec 1 with 589 views | HighgateBlue | Even if the Goalkeepers' Union had a heavy night out drinking the previous night, that is quite some collection of strikes! It feels odd to look back on the 2000s and consider it to be so long ago. Not sure if it's just cos I'm getting old, or whether I just haven't looked back on the last 20 years much due to ITFC's malaise...

I'm not sure that argument is supported by the facts, even over a long term, let alone in respect of the last 15 years. Balls must weigh between 410 and 450g at the start of a match. That is clear from the first link below. According to the second link below, that same specification has been in force since 1937, before which time the limits were actually an ounce lighter, not heavier. The point made at the second link below is that older materials allowed for more water absorption during a game. However, there's clearly no material difference in this respect since the 2000s, as natural unfinished leather had long since gone out by then (indeed by the 1970s). One point I must confess to not having any info on is pressure. I have no reason to think that the rules on air pressure within a ball have changed substantially, but if they have, clearly it's possible that that might make a difference to how easy it is to strike a ball. But again, surely nobody who actually plays football would think there is a material difference in how inflated footballs were in the 2006 compared with 15 years later. https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11 http://www.morethanmindgames.com/2010/06/26/an-enduring-football-myth-the-weight

I dont know what the facts are on paper but can tell you from experience the new balls are terrible compared to those made between 2000-2010. I think there was something a couple of years ago where Guardiola mentioned how sh*t the mitre balls were in the league cup.
