Here's a book worth reading, from the investigative journalist Rob Davies: Jackpot, How Gambling Conquered Britain. Worth bearing in mind that around all the wrecked lives of suicidal addiction Denise Coates, Bet365's founder, was given the biggest pay packet in British corporate history in 2020, £421 million plus £48 million in dividends. Worth remembering that viewers, including children, were exposed to nearly 90 minutes of gambling ads during the 2018 World Cup. Worth noting that operators' gross profits from football rose from £578 million in 2015-16 to £1.1 billion in 2019-20. While we might sympathise with Derby's situation and Rooney's turn to drinking, it's worth remembering that his move to Derby was bankrolled by 32Red who insisted he wear the No 32 shirt. I have no confidence in this current Government's promise of tougher regulation - regulations which were relaxed, incidentally, during Tony B Liar''s era. Mind you, I've got no confidence in this Government on anything.

Having known people who have had gambling addictions, it seems as though they only seem to announce their wins, giving the impression that they have a ‘system’ and are specialists at beating the odds. It’s sad how prevalent gambling promotion is allowed to be, and the people like the Bet365 owners who profit from vulnerable addicts are worse than drug dealers in my opinion. Even yesterday driving back from MK listening to the Norwich v Man City game, every opportunity was taken to promote the various odds on the game. They were almost cynically trying to push people to bet on Norwich to win, knowing full well there was virtually no chance.

Recently closed all of my accounts. I never lost more than I could afford to in terms of monetary value, but my God can it be a time sink (especially slots).

I've moved my time to learning to play the guitar, reading and preparing for the twins arrival (which was the main catalyst in closing the accounts).

I could write an entire book on the subject. As a pro sports bettor I see daily how corrupt the bookies are. Basically if they suspect you to be a winning punter they limit your account rendering it worthless.

They really are.

If they were forced to give promotions to all account holders and had to take a minimum £25 from everyone I would quit my job tomorrow and go back to betting.

Truly impaired.
Poll: Will you buying a Super Blues membership?

It’s a joke mate. Last week managed to open a Bet Fred account. I deposited, made 1 bet and within 30 mins has email saying upon review of your account restrictions apply. (This was before bet was settled)
Furthermore they happily accept a reasonably large deposit with no documentation and yet once you want to withdraw (the money you’re no long allowed to bet) they want to see all kinds of paperwork.
