The other signing I would desperately like to see us make 07:59 - Jan 25 with 1059 viewsLen_Brennan

Obviously we are looking to bring in a third centre forward to cover & compete with Delap & Hirst, but for me an announcement that Axel Tuanzebe has signed a new contract with us for another 2+ years would be almost as desirable.
It was reported that he signed a 1 year deal with option of a 2nd year, which we triggered, so he is due to be a free agent in the summer, and is free to be in discussion with other clubs now about a move.
Of course he will want to be playing Premier League football, and it is far from certain, at this point, if we can offer him that next season, but he has done well for himself by coming here, just as much as he has done well for us.
We were very patient with him last season, despite his wages for a new Championship club, and in reality allowed him the first half of the season to get up to full match fitness. But when he got match fit, we could all see what a quality defender he is, and upon promotion, he arguably looked more a Premier League footballer than anyone else in the squad.
His thumb injury was a freak accident, so we can't count the weeks missed there as a sign of him being injury prone, and even his hamstring imjury was unfortunate, so I wouldn't have any huge concerns there.
He is a solid centre half at this level, and an excellent one v one defender in the hybrid right back role that is so important in how we play under McKenna. He is to us in the PL, what Janoi Donancien was in L1.
I'm sure other PL clubs have taken note of his early performances for us & made contact, but maybe the injury record would put them off a long contract offer? Hopefully we are activity trying to tie him down to another couple of years, because replacing him will be very difficult & very expensive.

You need to look closer as his injury history is significant.

He has played only 121 games since he made his debut about 9 years ago, and has had significant thigh, ankle and hamstring injuries. The only real one off freak injury was his thumb

He is without doubt a talented player but the question is can we afford to carry a player whose injury record suggests he will miss 50% of games per season.

I would argue we can because he significantly improves the team when he plays.
