What a man. I had read this story before, but that account was very good. I read about what happened at My Lai, and was unaware of the story after. As I say, what a man. Truly a hero.

Never heard of that story before, what an incredibly brave person. Proof you don't have to just follow orders.

I vaguely recall being told about My Lau in late 80s and the role the airmen played in trying to stop the massacre from someone at Bentwaters, but the 1998 thing was new to me. Forgiveness being way more powerful than the violence.

Thanks for posting this.

The story rings a bell but I can't say I knew much.

Yes, amongst all the violence and the confusion of war there's the odd anecdote of someone standing up for what's right rather than just going along with whatever sickening acts they can get away with.

To actively stand up against their own in that situation was quite something. Respect to the man and his crew. I'd like to see the documentary sometime after reading that.

Average age of Charlie Company was just 20. Madness. I struggle with the timescales around things like this. That Yorkshire TV documentary (which is excellent, I’m about 1/3rd of the way through) was released it was only 20 years after the massacre. That’s nothing. It must have been so raw and fresh still to those involved. I was born only 3 years after it; you’ve no idea how recent these things were when you’re a kid of course.
