Took some time to go running before writing this, as I wanted some time to reflect.
We didn't play with enough urgency at times today. I think KMK got the selection wrong today (Captain Hindsight speaking - I didn't think this at the beginning). I think TJJ in the centre and Harness on the left would have been better.
Their back two really did a number on Ladapo. He was making some good runs, but both defenders would cut in front of him to stop him running, clear obstruction, with neither playing the ball. The pace of TJJ would have been better for move.
I think Leigh would have been better than Edmundson at LCB for this game. Note I woke up late and only was ready a few mins before the game. So not sure if he injury. Him and Donacien are more aerially dominant from what I've seen so far this season.
I though we played well for the first 15mins, but then persisted in playing too many long balls. I thought Davis was excellent in this half and was unlucky with his shot. After the first 15mins I think we lacked a bit of urgency. Clearly difficult to maintain that when they are breaking up the play by rolling on the floor every 5mins.
I feel sorry for Barnsley. They are being turned into a poor team and yeah, they will frustrate teams like us, who want to play. But they seam no more contenders for promotion than the Cambridge's and Cheltenham's of the League.
The second half was hard to judge as it was more of the same. But we weathered a bad period of play and then went 2-1. We followed this up almost immediately and killed the game. Except, we didn't, because the referee unjustly and inconsistently awarded a foul against Harness, when the initial foul was against him.
Refs have a tough job. Last game, we had a terrible decision go against us (the pen that never was). But the ref didn't have a terrible game. It was just one poor decision in isolation. But this ref was terrible throughout. Inconsistent, poor, and game costing. 3-1 and the game is dead.
The defending for both goals we conceded was bad. People not getting picked up. I'll cry if I go into detail.
Overall my MOTM was Davis, but Evans, Morsy and Chaplin all had good games for me. |  |
