Eating out in East London. 14:28 - Oct 2 with 905 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

We are taking Junior to a gig in Hoxton on a weekday in a couple of weeks, any tips on where me and Miss Slave can eat in Hoxton, Shoreditch, Hackney area while she is there.....veggie/pescatarian, reasonably priced.

Edit....ps..I guess it's in the congestion zone, would we be best parking somewhere and getting a train/ underground in?

I used to know that area really well from my DJ days, and there used to be tonnes of decent food options, but the area has changed a fair bit (used to be all hipster trendy types, now a bit more mainstream) plus my memory isn't that good any more. There will still be loads of options though I'm sure. If nothing else there is a boxpark place with a lot of small streetfood concessions in it.

Who are you going to see?

Loads of options in Spitalfields Market or the surrounding streets - usually just go for a wander and see what catches the eye

Stones throw from Brick Lane. Loads of choice for a great curry down there. Some are veggie centric. Most are bring your own booze.

If you jump on the Overground to Hackney Wick, there's loads of stuff around the canal there. Hackney Bridge is a warehouse with bars and about 10 food options, just close to the station and that area is probably one of the most lively nightlife spots in London right now.

Believe me we aren't watching. Junior is seeing Lauren Aquilina! Never heard of her.

If it's something cheap, very quick and easy you're after, you can't go far wrong with Pizza Union, think there are a couple in the general area, one is near Spitalfields and about a five min walk from Liverpool St.

Not a vegan but those I know who are all talk highly of these two restaurants around that area.

Each to their own and no disrespect to those who advocate the likes of Brick Lane but generally they tend to be your typical curry houses along there, just in high numbers.

Things may have changed though since the days I was around the place regularly.

I would still head to an old favourite if it was me but I love their food. They have decent fish and veg options too. Thing I like is they don't have ridiculous page and page of made up nonsense; this is just good food.

As always, if it's full of white faces you know what you're getting; a typical curry house.

This place was always popular with the Asian locals and business people alike.

Totally agree with Jeera, but I’ll add this one - https://www.tayyabs.co.uk/menu.html

Have been many times with mixed groups of vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters and it’s always a winner.

Ah someone was talking about that place to me the other week when we had a similar conversation. Said he makes a beeline for it whenever he's in the area.

Don't think it was there in my day, as it were, or maybe wasn't on my radar for other reasons. I tended to stick to those near my wholesalers where I could keep an eye on things!

So can vouch for Tayyabs even it is second hand.

Edit: In fact I shall make a point of trying it myself if/when I get the chance.
