Too many of our players had off days, particularly JD and Burns. We ended the game with a right side of KVY and Jackson which you wouldn't expect when chasing a game.
I stand by my opinion that we don't have enough match winners, i.e players who will score goals out of nothing and/or from outside the box. We've started to address the set piece issue this season which was important, but you want to see us produce more moments of individual quality when we can't break teams down. I worry that could be something that sees us fall short at the end of the season - but obviously that's a long way off still.
Thought Davis was our best performer by a distance.
Striker dept. needs a serious look in Jan. I'm sorry to say TJJ isn't the understudy to Ladapo he is trying to be. Someone post match made a good point in questioning why, if you're going to be putting more crosses into the box later in the game, why take Ladapo off. Not for a minute suggesting Ladapo played particularly well mind you, and arguably you might be wanting someone in January to replace him as first choice.
Something else that would be nice is a genuine replacement for Burns when he's off it like today. Jackson, while he did put a couple of good low balls into the box, is somewhat scraping the barrel as a winger on days like today. This wasn't a tough away day against a promotion rival.
All that said, we had moments and what I'm going to call 'three quarter' chances that go in on another day. Bit of a freak goal they scored as well. Play that game again next Saturday and we probably win 2-0. |  |
