We rapidly become desensitised to the scale and frequency consequences of global heating, whether we consciously or subconsciously try to ignore them, or whether the news is just buried under more emotional or 'cultural' issues.

One of the reasons for this, negative Indian Ocean dipole, is also why there is a drought in Sudan.

The rain that should be heading to East Africa is instead heading to Australia.

That along with a La Nina event (third one in 3 years) is bringing lots of rain to Aus.

I'm yet to be able to get my head around the impacts on ENSO of increased stored energy in the ocean/atmosphere. I think, from what I've read, that the initial impact is likely to be more severe El Ninos / La Ninas rather than a swing towards one or the other, but I guess there are such massive interconnected global systems responding to each other and to a hotter base, that all bets are off.
