Morning. Imagine there's a word puzzle or something here. 01:19 - Dec 15 with 646 viewsBlueBadger

Solidarity Is Important, nay essential.
I stand with my RCN colleagues today.
THERE WILL BE NO EMPTY WARDS. Areas will be staffed. It will be 'weekend' levels of staff. I am EXTREMELY critical care and acute in my job. I will be working tonight. Because patient safety comes first. On of the reasons my colleagues are striking is because patient safety has been compromised through government policy.
1. My RCN colleagues are striking. I support this action.
2. I am not an RCN member. My reasons for not being an RCN member are not important today.
3. If I could strike, I would. Legally, I am unable to strike because whilst locally to my area we had a 92%+ support of those who voted, we could not muster enough turnout to strike. I'm disappointed but understanding. I joined Unison because healthcare is a team game and I stand with everyone I work with. This means the advantage of numbers but also, the need to canvas people across the board, which means 'divide and conquer' tactics can aid those who wish to keep us 'in our place'.
4. Cost of living is up. Real term wages is down in extremis in the last year. Nursing wages have been subject to real-terms cuts over the past DECADE.
5. The same politicians who are telling you we can't afford public sector pay rises are the same ones who were telling you the EU was taking £350M of your money a week. And then suggested we could fund the NHS with it.
6. My colleagues do not want to strike. I did not want to strike.I voted to strike because I feel that the government does not, has not and will not value me and my colleagues.
7. Strike action will not result in empty wards. There will be 'weekend cover'.
8. We don't actually have enough staff for proper 'weekend cover'. This is one of the reasons my colleagues are striking.
9. The Current chancellor and previous health secretary Jeremy Hunt quietly shelved NICE research on safe staffing levels. No health secretary since has picked this baton.
10. In real terms the average pay of nurses has fallen by nearly 10% since 2010.

While I may or may not support other strikes I do fully understand the position the nurses find themselves in

These are the people who less than 2 years ago were been applauded for being our saviours and promised that their efforts would not be forgotten. Yet now, have basically been told to “to do one” by the same politicians

We can’t afford it yet we can shake the magical money tree to fund £2billion to buy support from a fringe party for brexit, funny how fiscal responsibility is suddenly flavour of the month

Up the nurses!!

And remember folks don’t vote Tory

And all because people have for decades been indoctrinated that money is to be spent on toys and holidays for themselves rather than upon having a nice country which everyone can benefit from.

Thus politicians are terrified of taxing anybody, as it will lose votes. Or donations, in the case of taxing and regulating business.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?
