Strange decision not to recall him. At the end of Jan we had four fit midfielders: Morsy, Humphreys, Evans and Luongo. We now have two. Four isn’t enough depth with Ball and Camara known to be long term absentees. It’s not like we have an obvious utility player to step in when needed either.

Greg Leigh is the closest we have to an emergency utility player, I would suggest. Clarke could probably do a job as a CDM in the N'Daw mould in a mid-game emergency, as well. Truth be told, I would be happy with either as a defensive screen CDM as part of a "Plan B" move to make us harder to cut through. Then let Morsy and Humphreys play football, Morsy dribbling, twisting and turning to play short passes to open strikers, Humphreys pinging the longer balls, both making the defence splitting slide rule passes into space behind. We have so many players packed around the opposition box that the congestion makes good movement almost impossible against reasonably competent, determined, big, organised teams. On a tangent: I was pleasantly surprised that Joey Barton's team were so much less dirty than most we have played this season, and also didn't seem to indulge in as much time wasting as many, one "tactical injury break to disrupt momentum" apart.
