"Minutes before MPs in the lower house were to vote, Macron was still holding a series of frantic meetings with senior political figures, and suddenly chose to use special powers instead of risking a vote, which he appeared poised to lose."

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."

The cliche contrast with the U.K. is that in France, the government are afraid of the people. In the U.K. the people are afraid of the government.

Here, cameras everywhere, France they daub and burn them. If they don’t like something, they blockade it. If the politicians don’t like it, tough. I admire them for that. Yellow vest protests, pension age protests: good for them.

Macron might see himself as Emperor of Europe, but he’s is in a world of trouble in forcing this through.

French needs more than 3 word slogans....
"Travailler jusqu'à la mort."

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."

Something about drifting into fascism.....

"Any no-confidence vote would need the support of the right’s Les Républicains to pass, but the party’s leader, Éric Ciotti, said it would not support such a vote."
