And anyway there's more money to be made by trying to treat cancers rather than dealing with the causes!

Tatiana Santos, the head of chemicals policy at the European Environmental Bureau, said: “The EU’s failure to control harmful chemicals is written in the contaminated blood of almost all Europeans. Every delay brings more suffering, sickness and even early deaths. The EU’s regulatory retreat could be the nail in the coffin of the European green deal, fuelling cynicism about untrustworthy elites doing deals with big toxic lobbies, unless the commission makes good on its promise to detox products and stand up to polluters.”

On a personal level, he says, he makes choices based on unnecessary exposure, but also as an act of consumer protest — “every little action matters”. It is often hard to find out the composition of plastic products — they don’t come with ingredients lists like food — but he recalls looking for a new watch strap and discovering one contained perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). “I went: well, I won’t be buying that. It is associated with testicular and kidney cancer, low birth weight in newborns and just a ton of things.” PFAS are among the many commonly used chemicals in plastics that are endocrine disruptors, which some scientists believe are to blame for declining global sperm counts.

Happy Tuesday.

Or you can do your best to try and find decent politicians to vote for, always make your vote count (and that means advocating for proportional representation Harry10), always engaging with fellow citizens and maintaining a strong and eclectic range of attention on social matters.

On the subject of corporate irresponsibility, and I have recommended this on another thread too, there is still a week or so left to watch this set of three one hour documentaries that explain, often in interviews with people working for the behemoths, how we have lost forty years in bringing man made climate change under control:

Heard her on the Campbell and Stewart Leading pod - what she proposes sounds very sensible, which means it'll never happen. However if a Doughnut Party were to suddenly spring into being before the next GE, and they put up a candidate in my constituency, I'd vote for them!
