Anyone else watched The Deepest Breath? 15:30 - Aug 2 with 851 viewshype313

Bloody hell, got serious anxiety watching that! Didn't even know it was a sport.

Considering I struggled with the wave machine at Crown Pools, I wouldn't fancy my chances doing that as a career.

Yeh Ive watched it. Terrific documentary.
I SCUBA dive and the Blue Hole at Dahab is well known as a dangerous dive site, let alone trying to freedive it.

Thought it was a really good watch but yes agree on the anxiety. When I was younger I once swam a length and back of a pool with the cover on (which was idiotic but did give a bit of a rush - so weirdly there is something in the rush of it).

I like the simplicity and rawness if it but when you reflect so many completely pointless deaths. I can't understand why the safety guys don't just have those very lightweight oxygen handheld things for a few breaths for an energy etc. Or some unit to help them go fast for emergencies. Probably comes down to ego and keeping it dangerous.

That's what we were saying last night, couldn't believe the safety team didn't have oxygen for people who were clearly struggling.

But also you wouldn't get a white card if you came up and asked for help, really odd.

I think the oxygen would be an issue at a certain depth possibly with the pressure exerted on the lungs but just a little handheld one for closer to the surface where most of them seem to pass out.

On that last dive with what happened. For something like that surely just have a little handheld propeller 'seascooter'. Cost a few hundred quid....just binteason other than ego not to have one if something goes wrong.
