Firstly don’t under estimate how well QPR played at times, specifically how well they pressed us, and also the quality of some of their players. Especially their powerful striker Armstrong and attacking mid chair. But Armstrong came off and they couldn’t keep their levels of closing up, and I think a Town goal was inevitable. Having said that they had some amazing chances, we were saved by a double post and an incredible miss. Thoughts on players; Hladky - 8/10 close to MOTM, and his excellent form is quite key to this successful start. His feet are great, and he’s making important stops and claims Donacien - 5/10 he was struggling a bit before the injury, but too handsy on their attacker (Clarke) - 7/10 some good stuff, and his passing is much more aggressive than Donacien. But a few rusty moments. Wolf - 7/10 some great defending and his footwork is sublime at times - BUT - almost a couple of bowlers today Cam Burgess - 7/10 some good moments, he’s started the season well. Town are very robust at set-pieces, and he’s key. Almost scored himself. One moment of madness where I thought he had given away a pen… but rash. Davis - 8/10 I think he was the difference at times today, he carried threat and defending positive Burns - 6/10 a bit mixed. Came to life in moments and did manage to break into the edge of the penalty box. He improved once Clarke was on. But overall I felt he didn’t exploit some good situations Morsy - 8/10 it is interesting to watch him at this level… he gets so much less time and space, and QPR really got into him and massimo but our captain won the battle and was good Luongo 9/10 MOTM - just wow, this record breaking run from Town has so much to do with our antipodean warriors fitness… he’s absolutely mustard at the moment. Won loads, linked loads, fed Davis really well. And almost scored. Broadhead 5/10 a poor day at the office. Of course he was targeted and well marked. But in the limited moments he had the touch was off. Chaplin 7/10 so good our key man is off the mark, and boy he enjoyed the goal in front of the blue army. But for me he wasn’t really fully on his game… did improve after the goal. Hirst 7/10 jeeze he put in a shift. Had some good moments. But could have done better in a few moments. He had a great chance. The penalty shout was unlikely to be given. (Hutchison) 5/10 - I was screaming at the game, he failed to press in a key passage of play and a stronger team would have punished. Not much opportunity but I am yet to be convinced on his effectiveness. | |
