It’s been a while since I was last here, but it’s very disappointing. I was hoping to pick up some new trousers from Grimwades, check out the latest ZX Spectrum in Menzies and then buy some early Christmas presents for the kids from Everybody’s Hobbies.
I go away for a few years and you lot have wrecked the place.

You didn’t try and go for a drink at the ‘Golden Lion’ did you?
Nah, I was too busy banging on the door of The Great White Horse Hotel. I threw up on their new carpet in 1987 and wanted to belatedly apologise. Nobody answered though. So rude!
The thing I always recall about Menzies it was one of the few shops to have air conditioning. Always felt magical to feel that cool air and then play the demo games on the spectrums.

It was a magical place. Late night opening leading up to Christmas, I’d spend hours in there just watching these new fangled compooter machines. I liked the bookshop in Ancient House too. TWTD.

Yes the ancient house had that proper musty dusty bookshop smell. I’ll be back at Xmas for a visit. My spidey senses tell me the town centre wont seem quite as magical as it once did.
