We were off it slightly in the first 5-10 but I love that we play our way and we don't change that part of our game for anyone. When we had a couple of dodgy moments we seemed to just carry on the support in the stands and I heard very few people lapsing into the groaning. If anything we got louder. Don't think the importance of this can be underestimated. We're relentless with it and it carries with it the good type of sporting arrogance. You might well get a goal from a mistake but we'll keep playing and over 90 on these carpet pitches the odds are we'll cause you more trouble than you cause us. For some reason it reminds me of those special boxers at the height of their powers - like an Ali shuffle - supreme confidence in your own ability. Almost taunting the opponent. I could watch the ' Woolfy foot on ball for long enough to make their 10 press before slipping it through to Morsy who is now free to turn and get us going' routine all day. That said last 20 might have been a bit too much rope a dope for my liking....😁

We concede, we carry on almost like it never happened, crowd louder. You could hear the Villa fans getting nervous after West Ham nicked a goal and so did the players. Missed passes, moans and groans, transmitted to more missed passes. But for a great goal by the excellent Watkins Villa might easily have thrown away a couple of points. I have to say that when we mess about at the back, it’s not good for my heart and I yearn for the simple ‘lump it’ sometimes. [Post edited 27 Oct 2023 8:03]

The thing is we do have the targetted lump it in us too in Burgess which has developed over the past calendar year... also our keep does kick it long in the closing stages of games more often now.

Actually, Burgess can not just hoof it, he’s got a heck of a pass on him too. He has done brilliantly so far this season. I thought he might be ok and make the step up, but he’s been a heck of a lot better than that.

Targeted lump it was meant to convey that it was more of a measured long ball but obviously failed to do that... yes I agree, I commented yesterday elsewhere that he is probably our most improved player this year. It is always noticeable during the tempt them phase that the passer is always directly opposite a team mate on the half turn as another will be to him etc etc... it really is chess on a football field we are playing.
