Not just that, but introduced crucial anti-rejection treatments as well.

The word 'hero' is occasionally cheapened, but I think it's entirely appropriate here.
Having worked on the Addenbrookes transplant unit in the past, I've seen his life-changing legacy up close and was even lucky enough to meet him once and see him lecture.
