Expiring contracts 15:02 - May 3 with 1353 views | ITFCMonk | Having a little look at those who are out of contract this summer. Looks like we have options to extend Walton, Tuanzebe and Burgess. I think even if promoted we should extend those. Morsy and Hladky I imagine we will negotiate either way depending on which league? Ball, Donacien, Jackson & Aluko all look likely to be realised. Although that wouldn’t be a bad quartet for a Champ or league 1 club to pick up for free.

Even if its with a view to moving Walton on, you would think we would get a fee for him from a Championship club. Morsy is a must. Ideally we become less reliant on him and there's a clearer succession plan, but his influence and experience is vital to keep around. You get the impression he sets the highest of standards. Those 4 probably will all go, and while a shame in a could of cases it would be right probably for club and player. As well as Hladky has done this year I do think there's some thinking to be done in the GK department given the contractual situation and fact we would, probably, need to up it a level if we went up.

Hladky is an interesting one as I’ve had a non Ipswich supporter saying to me this week how bad he looked against Hull. I really hope we keep hold of him as he has been so keen to the way we play. Agree we could easily upgrade but it just doesn’t make sense to me to release him that easily.

They clearly didn't see the whole match and the two big saves he made. Watch the Huddersfield away highlights and see his MoTM performance, then consider his level as somewhere inbetween.

On balance this season he's been incredible for us, probably in my top 3 POTS. Not just relative to our own expectations and being thrust in due to Walton's injury, but more generally. All players make c0ck ups at times, he isn't the only one in our squad to and isn't the only keeper in the division to either. I thought the 3rd at Hull was pretty poor, Coventry's goal looked soft too, and he isn't the most commanding aerially. All that said he's been excellent for us and really set the tone with his ball playing ability and calmness, has made countless unbelievable stops not least in recent weeks against Boro and Cov. That's the life of a keeper though innit, you make 1 cock up and you're punished. Looking at it more objectively I do question if he's a premier league keeper though, and at 33 it might be the right time to look to bring in a younger and better version while he takes up the spot on the bench and plays in cups. That would probably mean Walton needs to move on and Slicker stays as #3.

The difference between how fans see a keeper as opposed to a striker is a striker can miss six sitters, score one and he's a hero. A keeper can make six super saves and let a soft one in and he's a villain.
