Pretty much as I expected across here and social media! Had two guys behind me (I know - shock - you're not going to believe that many other people even turned up with the tickets they purchased - reckon the away end was 70% full) acting like the club may as well be dissolved. You have to wonder if people have watched football before. It was largely as I expected. Tough. Wimbledon were always going to sit behind the ball. We were going pass it round nicely with decent individual partnerships and hope our quality told in spite of not having one single established partnership on the pitch. Instead we got done by two (three really) balls into box that may be as a result of players not knowing who to pick up, whether it was zonal or man marking, teething troubles anyway even if we should do better. Was nothing more than a fitness exercise. Important season ahead, we need players fit and up to speed in the system. Wimbledon are a team that know each other, did their job, really were not very good but it was one of those nights that football throws up. Clarke was good, opened up all that space Leif will enjoy having. Townsend decent in the first half. Cajuste and Phillips showed glimpses as did O'Shea. Not much room or space for Ogbene to do much with. Frustrating. We probably win that 4 times out of 5 in spite of offering very little going forward. Weird game. 4 headed goals. Barely any other chances all night. Bothered! Would have preferred a win, if nothing else for the avoidance of the flouncing that followed two defeats that most teams in the world would fall to, becoming part of a narrative of too much change, new players not good enough, squad disharmony or whatever else the dramatic elements of the fan base will conjure up. Wimbledon a decent away day again. I've said it every year we've been there but the bloody electronic boards make it impossible to see the ball when it's on the floor and I've now sat in the front and back rows there and it's been the same. Heard many similar moans from around me. Lucky the goals were headers! Wonder if we've ever played any other team three years in a row, in three different competitions? [Post edited 29 Aug 2024 9:56]
