I love a bit of Ska....

Mate of mine was vocalist in Special Beat in the 1990s, high tenor alongside Neville, Roger and Lynval

2 of my mates were in Special Beat. Finny - lead vocals and Sean F on the keyboards. Decent band - were bigger in the USA and Japan than the UK

Was that Mike's stage name... or was he just a depressed plumber?

Nooo...not his stage name, just a plumber who wasn't enjoying life

I think he gave up plumbing to paint in oils

About 20 years ago, I went to a wedding at which Suggs was present as a very good friend of the bride's father.

At the reception, the singer from the band was late, so Suggs took to the stage and performed some of the Madness songs.

Unfortunately, he was quite drunk by that stage, and his language on stage was pretty foul, although it didn't register with my relatively young children who were happily playing about.

When the singer to the band did turn up, he did though say words to the effect "how the hell do I follow a legend like Suggs?"
