That's an interesting read, and seems somewhat ominous given the advice of the advocate general.

If the ruling finds in Diarra's favour, would it mean that football contracts become no different to fixed-term employment contracts in any other sector? i.e. The club contracts to employ the player for the duration of the contract, but the player is able to seek alternative employment should they wish to do so?

Hang on, so basically, if a player wanted to force a move (I'm guessing abroad?) they could just down tools and refuse to train and then move on elsewhere if the club terminates their contract.

Assume the compensation will still be due for breach of contract?

They wouldn't even need to do that would they? Contracts would essentially be meaningless to clubs.

I guess it would be something else that does the smaller clubs over. Give a player a chance after they struggle at another club, and if they do well they'll just walk away from their current deal to a bigger, better paying club!
