For a band that is so famous, I don't think I've ever heard a song of theirs because I've never heard them played on the radio.

Legenday characters, but often too rambling for my taste.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Despite being huge in the States, they rarely troubled the airwaves here or even made much of an impact on the charts either side of the Atlantic

Their single " Truckin' " got to a heady No 64 in 1971

And " Touch of Grey " got to No 10 in 1987

One of their slightly more quirky claims to fame is that they sponsored the Lithuanian Basketball Team for the 1992 Olympics

Truly magical music and gloriously spaced out people

I didn't know about the Lithuanian basketball team but I knew about their funding of little known modern day English classical music composers, and that's not all:

'"We look for things that have fallen through the cracks of the big charities, that need an angel to come down and give them a shot," says Phil Lesh, the band's bassist.'
