Alex Palmer fee; WBA forum reaction; number of appearances 12:32 - Feb 3 with 1585 viewsunstableblue

£2m for a Championship keeper, who has started every gamer for WBA in the Championship (30 starts), who is 28, and is well rated by fans, seems remarkably low. But WBA forums stating £2m rising to £5m.

I know Bristol Rovers fans seem gutted their loanee Griffiths will return to The Hawthorns - although I thought loanee returns had past.

Their reaction:

"Great business selling your first choice keeper and last season's golden gloves winner for £5million?? It doesn't sound great to me."

"Ipswich signed Muric from Burnley in the Summer for £10m plus addons but to be honest he's awful and made a few mistakes already so not surprised they are already looking to replace him.

Palmer is a steady keeper, I know there has been criticism of his distribution but the main role for a keeper is to keep the ball out of the net and he's pretty good at that, be a big loss to be honest if it goes through"

"Shocking piece of business. Our good defensive record is very much to do with Palmer. How many points has he won us this season? Could be 10? Think we will start conceding more goals, and bang goes our remaining hopes for the season. For me, this transfer window is a flop now, whoever we might bring in."

"Dood saying it's close to 5m , not 2m
Mr Baggies saying 2m is the first installment of much higher fee."

"Fair enough. £5 m seems ok for a solid keeper who will be out of contract in the not too distant future. Griffiths return from BR seems likely."

"Unfortunately it’s necessary in our financial situation. I agree Palmer has been a good keeper for us. The only negative has been his distribution which has not been great."

---- "What's more important though. Several wayward drop kicks or making point blank saves when its literally one on one with a striker? In virtually every match Palmer makes crucial saves. Griffiths will have to be pretty damn good to match him, and being young, will he have the authority to boss his defenders? And if Griffiths is injured, Wildsmith doesn't fill me with great confidence on the basis of his showing at Bournemouth.
Bad piece of business even if with a decent fee."

"I have no problem with Palmer going and being replaced by Griffiths, but the fee is derisory."

"He's out of contract next summer and we run the risk of losing him for nothing.
We cannot afford to have two assets in Palmer and Griffiths so one of them clearly has to go.
The £5m is a welcome boost financially and might ease some of the pressures we will face in the summer.
He'll be a miss as he's been a competent goalkeeper for us, but all faith goes into Josh Griffiths who has excelled at Bristol Rovers this season."

"Keepers can play well into their 30s. 28 isn't old for a keeper."

"Get used to it folks this is the model we are going to have to live by for the foreseeable, sell on players at their peak value whilst bringing through younger (& importantly hopefully better) players who can be sold on at a bigger profit.
Would have ideally liked to get more than £5m for Palmer, hopefully it’s £5m with further add in’s included to take the deal to £7-8m but makes total sense from a PSR standpoint."

£2m I was happy with. Hopefully the majority of the remaining £3m is dependent on survival, rather than us just paying it to them in the summer. £5m is pushing is slightly in terms of value.

... opinions on an incoming player

For example, the Clarke departure on loan not met with howls of derision, and general opinion was he'll do a good job at Championship level.

We'd all give a fair opinion of say Cajuste.

If Axel were to not sign a new contract we'd all rightly cry!!
