Parked in Stanley Park just after 12, went in the Arkles until it started getting busy, then we walked down the road to the Flat Iron for a a few… barmaid told us how busy it was last Sunday and that someone set a flare off in the pub… you could see the scorch mark on the floor. We asked for a set of darts to have a game in the back room. She said she would have given them to us, but they’d been nicked. Resisted the temptation to make an easy joke….

Walked across Stanley Park to Goodison and entered the ground, you could see how dated it suddenly looks now after 22 years of not being there and how modern stadia have left the Old Lady looking rather haggard.
Annoying couple of goals to concede, but a good fightback including Julio’s worldy, and to David Moyes’ point, Everton never quite shook us off and you sensed an equaliser was possible, so when it arrived it was to no-one’s surprise.

As we left the ground, there was quite a few Evertonians still standing in place, some of whom won’t be there in a fortnight so were savouring every last memory.

Walked back across tbe park, past Anfield to get a Scouse Sausage dinner and with bodies and car re-fuelled, headed home… Waze thankfully stepping in to divert us around a hold up on the M62.

Quick loo stop at Rugby just before some of the coaches arrived and back in Ipswich by 10.05pm.

A well-earned point and we reflected on how our away form has been what you would need to have a chance to stay up, but unusually, it’s our form at Portman Road that’s let us down.

As I was reading that I was considering how a similar day report would have read after they beat us in the quarter finals in 1980

Crazy day - although it did give rise to the best football chant I have ever witnessed

Que one minutes silence for Dixie Dean.

“Dixie Dean, Dixie Dean, can you hear us in your box”?

Should also add, as we came out of the ground to head back across the park, we saw a young Everton fan who was being told by his Grandad to get used to it…. This is what happens…

Did make us laugh as we overheard that.
